Once a character has reached level 85, you can transfer it to a server of your choice.
The transfer is only possible until 13th February 2020. All characters that have not been transferred by this date (naturally, that applies especially to characters below level 85) will be deleted.
Off to the regular server: as soon as your character has reached level 85, you can transfer it to a regular server of your choice within your region by the specified date.
1st take away i would agree with however the 2nd, see quotes.... how is that not clear? Oo
None of the postings by GF stated that any character who hasn't reached 85 by the time the servers go offline/unavailable that they will not be able to be transferred off as well. The postings by GF has not clearly stated that ONLY a lvl 85 can transfer off. The postings by GF has only said that once you reach 85 you CAN transfer off. Nothing about anything prior to reaching 85.
[.... rest omitted]
Please do read the FAQ/Guide posted here in its entirety , this is where the quotes you replied to with Minibas post quoting Pologs texts come from.
Believe me I've read the darn thing over & over & over again to see where it said you can ONLY transfer characters that are 85. Nowhere in the post FAQ/Guide does it say that ONLY will characters who are 85 will transfer over to the normal servers once Jan 30th hits. The post just says "as soon as your character has reached level 85, you can transfer it to a regular server of your choice within your region by the specified date" Take note on the part I bolded as it chose the word CAN and omitted the wording CAN ONLY. Simply stating the word CAN implies that since the level cap is 85 on the server there is no reason to stay no the server so you SHOULD transfer off to a normal server to continue to gain experience.
As I said in my reply to Guffzilla, had I known that you could ONLY transfer off once reaching 85 I wouldn't have bothered leveling my gathering skills while I was leveling my character level. I not only had a death in the family but I have to catch a flight to Los Angeles to testify in court on Tuesday and won't be returning until the day the servers go offline. There is absolutely no way for me to reach 85 in time. I spent diamonds on a mount and various other items. If I would have known I was going to get screwed over, I wouldn't have spent this money on that character and would have just leveled stuff up on the normal servers.
I think this is implied fairly clearly in the details - "as soon as your character has reached level 85" is pretty straightforward. My point was this wasn't communicated in the headliner information.

My settings are:
- Everything low except character detail, texture details are max and view distance is at 5% - 10%.
- All the bloom and water reflections etc disabled, hide effect of other players enabled.
- Try to have less addons, more addons cause more crash so better to delete all you don't need and would live without.
with these settings the game looks good and crash less, there is no way to fix the crashing entirely. That's a good tip and more detailed than my answer.
I guess part of my point is the people being paid to work on this game should fix this problem..
It's 10 + years old, this problem has been around forever... and it has nothing to do with hardware, it's the game. Any potato laptop these days is probably 10x more powerful than the machines this game was built with.
Maybe the game code is so foreign that adjusting menu items is beyond the capability of the developers translating the game? But why would you offer game options that DO NOT WORK ON ANY MACHINE IN EXISTENCE!
As a new player, it's just a bad experience. You crash - and there's nothing you can do about it. Obviously most people that play this game know the workarounds, to the point of having their characters running around visibly naked to alleviate the load on the client, but that's just bad form IMHO.
This game is fairly nice looking in high settings (which again, do not work unless you're in a remote part of the game world) - but people don't paly this game for the pretty graphics, especially when they cause the client to crash/receive memory warnings. Just disable those options and make the game secure if you're not going to re-engineer it.
-
I've been doing a bit of experimenting with this - I've found that setting graphics to 'normal' eliminates my warnings of memory leak issues and the following game-crashes (up to this point in my testing)
High settings causes everybody to crash, no matter what system they're running. Obviously the problem must stem somewhere between the normal/high settings - in order to resolve this issue, just remove the high settings feature, and toggle with the settings between until you find a secure state for performance in high demand areas.
Most people go, high crashes, so let's set it to low (at least the players that this hasn't frightened away) however medium settings at least look presentable and I can at least say that the vast majority of these crashes/warnings are being caused somewhere between or to the end of normal/high settings. Low, I receive none but the game looks terrible. Normal, so far, the same, but the game looks decent.

I figured out the problem. Had to change it so that the level 85 toon was my primary.
I ran into the same issue and can confirm - your primary class needs to be 85 in order to transfer

RW is Taiwanese.
Most other GF games are from Korean development companies though - in general, most of the games are originally sourced from Asian companies
to name a few:
TERA - Bluehole (KR)
Soulworker - Lion Games (KR)
Aion - NCSoft (KR) (NCSoft is also known as the parent company of GuildWars2' developer ArenaNet)
Metin2 - Ymir/WebZen (KR)
Nostale - Entwell (KR)
4Story - Zemi Interactive (KR)
Elsword - KOG (KR)
quite the pattern, but RW is from Taiwan
My bad - Taiwanese - Hopefully the Chinese servers are well populated.
Here's a question regarding the game. Clearly a technical issue involving memory leak, disallows players from enjoying the game in high graphics, or even medium without crashing in heavily graphical areas in the game.
I think if you fixed that, revamped the translation and reworked the item shop, you could relaunch and rejuvenate the game. Does this game have a future?

Pls don't waste tinfoil, its not easy to recycle.
No, Guardians of Ember closing has nothing to do with the RoM Catch Up server. The Catch Up server is meant as an event server for new and returning players that lost their characters during the merges to catch up quickly to the rest and be able to play the newest patch of this chapter.
There are no plans to terminate the contract on RoM.Judging by board activity and other things, GoE was doing way way worse than RoM is doing right now.
As for content, except for the mainland China server (not sure this one is still running, sounds like a SaitoHajime question) there are no other official servers.
The GF game servers are the most up to date there is.
Thanks for getting back to me Diogenes.
I am curious though - is there no active Korean server? I thought Runewaker were a south korean company.

I agree it is stated, but it's in the fine print. I think a lot of people are like myself in that they'll read the headline, and jump right in. And frankly it's something that doesn't really make much sense to me and was unexpected. It's like you're punishing people for not having enough time to dedicate to the game.
Imagine getting to level 80, then something came up in your life and you lost all of that progress... Not a great way to introduce new players to the game.
-
just do the main quest lines, it's the fastest way. Ignore every other quest. I'm not sure what level you are but I'm approaching the end and I've been gaining 3 to 4 levels per day while working full time.

my feedback is I like the new server. It brought me back to the game and finally made me get over level 40.
Here's my problem ... I had no idea that I had to be 85 to transfer, that could have been more clearly communicated.
Also, if I didn't just happen to know how to join an unofficial world chat group, I would have never known.
So 2 takeaways. #1 make world chat free after a certain level so new players aren't completely left in the dark. Nobody uses the paid world chat and it makes the game seem empty.
#2 make it more clear in the advertising that you need to be 85 to transfer or you may end up with some very upset customers

seeing guardians of ember shut down along with the new catch up server has my tin foil cap on.
I read somewhere the contract expires this year, is that up for renewal or has it been renewed?
Is there any assurances that this game will be around for at least another couple of years?
Also, I see it's been a while since prior to the most recent update, I wonder what if anything we are missing in terms of content from the source game? Is this most recent update where the south korean version of the game is?
Can we expect any new races or classes or zones in the future?
Thanks

teoteotore, I was able to solo him but otherwise try to get a friend to help. There are a cpl of quests in the game beyond that one I did need some help with though
