  • Hi All,

I'm returning to ROM after few years.... (I stopped playing when they introduced SC instance).

However, I've a dilemma on what to pick for my 3rd class. I really love my M/D (great for solo farming), but I know it's not very viable at end game instances (and this is my main criteria).

I'm thinking about those sub-classes (in this order):

    1) WD - for D/WD or WD/D :D

    2) R - for R/M or D/R - good healer,but looks squishier

    3) Wr - for Wr/M - seems to be good DPS, but I placed Wr class once and it seemed boring

    4) Sc - I'm not sure if I could get anything good of this sub class (except D/S)

I read multiple topics on this and other forums, but still not sure what to pick @_@

Which of the above would be most end game viable and funniest to play?

  • Think you first need to decide / explore if you want to be healer or DPS because that is not very clear from your question. It is better to choose that in advance cuz it takes quite some time to get 1 of the 2 to be viable in endgame :)

  • to be honest, I want to be both - I'm searching for most useful clas combination, that can be used at end game, as DPS heal and maybe tank :)

    For WD:

    WD / D good tank

D / WD Very good healer

    M / WD good DPS

    For W:

    W / M & M / W - good DPS

    D / W - very good healer

    W / D ??? - good tank

  • The only good tank as warden is WdW, but at endgame you only want a K/W as tank, so no. Wd/W is still good dps anyway. W/M ofc is good dps, M/W only for some specific boss. Wd/D can be good for PvP, but Wd/W too.

D/Wd is good healer, D/W is a decent healer (most ppl dont like to use it) and have good buff for physical dps.

The other combination are pretty much useless at endgame.

    Crycry R/M/Wd/W/S/D

    Grümpy Wl/Ch/M/P/R/W

Just an old and humble legend :)

  • Hi Team_Cry,

Thank you for the above, however I have M/D so WD/W is not an option for now :)

So in your opinion I should go for WD or W?

I'm still thinking about R but except R/m all other combinations are trash :(

  • If you want to go for heal D/Wd, if you want dps then W/M. If you aim for endgame, you should just get all, you can have 6 class if you buy class expantion tickets, and compared to all what you have to expend to make endgame gears, the cost of few tickets is not much at all.

  • at endgame you only want a K/W as tank

heya, whats the advantage of k/w over wd/w btw?

The Authoritative Deterrence, thats all, those 3 seconds of burn. But thats enough.

Authoritative Deterrence is only part of it.

    Current instance design (without pantheon)

    - lots of % hits

    - defense doesn't really matter (if you are above 800.000 maybe even less)

    - bosses/trash have a really low hit rate (>40% dodge is quite common)

    - you basically never miss (last i checked i was at ~98%)

    - tactics usually are completely broken

    Additionally:

    - Players can reduce defense of bosses to 0.

So what do we do with all of the above?

=> We look which class combinations have the highest burn and which class combinations can be used to increase damage to ridiculous values.

K/W is the best combination for this:

    - 50% of the bossfight basically immune to any % damage. [true for all knights]

    - ridiculous damage increase for the party (Authoritative deterrence)

    - permanent +26% light damage for the whole raid (only interesting for K/M)

    Wd/W:

    - no sustainable damage reduce (Feral Leader has 3 min CD)

    - has better aggro skills => not required

    - lack of good AoE aggro skills

    - no party support for damage

For Pantheon this is quite different due to the high dodge rate of bosses (~50% depending on peaklevel).

Since this affects most skills, you just cannot stack all the buffs required to burn the bosses.

=> Other Tank classes get viable.

    Our tank choices:

    - K/W => usual choice

    - K/P => if our tank doesn't want to tank as R/K OR group doesn't have a Warlock OR main damage is W/M.

    - Wd/W => No knight around or knight doesn't want to tank.

Pantheon -> K/W only if K/M is in party.

    Back to the topic:

    Heal:

    - D/Wd: easiest to play, mdd support

    - D/R: good overall support

    - D/W: pdd support

    Tank:

    - Wd/W

    DD:
    - W/M: mdd

    - Wd/W: pdd
    - W/Wd: pdd

    - Wd/S: pdd, good party support

    - S/Wd: pdd, not viable in Pantheon -> really bad hit rate

    - S/R: pdd, not viable in Pantheon -> really bad hit rate
    - K/M: pdd, not viable in Pantheon -> not enough patk

    Support:

    - M/D [mdef reduce]

Edited once, last by Pyrr: fix class names. ().

  • R/K is the best combination for this:

    - 50% of the bossfight basically immune to any % damage. [true for all knights]

    - ridiculous damage increase for the party (Authoritative deterrence)

    - permanent +26% light damage for the whole raid (only interesting for K/M)

For r/k? Magical damage reduction of 56% for 10s (holy light protection) and max. 12% lower armor value on target (disarmament, don't know if that's physical AND magical). It's light damage increase is not a party buff. Since it can't use shield, shield of discipline can't be used either.

Or am I reading it wrong?

  • Yeah... used the German abbreviations accidentally... ^^

    R/M -> Ritter/Magier -> Knight/Mage -> K/M

    R/P -> Ritter/Priester -> Knight/Priest -> K/P

    R/K -> Ritter/Krieger -> Knight/Warrier -> K/W

  • Ah okay, was already confused with rogue as your main tank :D

Surprised you do not mention champion/rogue though, also a great tank imo.

i think all Champ combinations should be able to tank, but my experience with those are quite limited.

    All i remember is

+ Boss aggro is just stupid (i'd rank them: Champion > Warden > Knight)
    + C/P | C/M are great as support characters

    - AoE Aggro Skills are really limited (i think there was only one, the fan shaped front AoE iirc)

    - C/R has no party support

    - no useful damage reduce skill

    - Rage is an annoying resource

That explains a lot, I'm not used to the German ones :D
