  • I have had many guildies over the years who played on the US servers, but lived in Turkey, Israel, and the Philippines. As the Australian player base diminished, Gameforge merged them into the North American servers.

Is there a reason that we cannot attempt to increase siege participation by putting European and North American guilds into siege together? While there are still a large number of players and servers in Europe, the NA server has a limited number of active guilds and we tend to face off against the same people almost non-stop.

Likely, the seemingly minor issue of Time Zones and/or the various times that EU and NA enter/exit daylight savings times.

Over the course of a fortnight, the Siege times would change three times! And, of course, this confusion would happen twice a year.

Although I play on both EU and NA servers, I'm in Scotland. This means that the ideal time for Siege works just fine for me to play on EU servers.

But, if I want to join my NA guild-mates in their Siege, I need to be playing from 1:00 to 2:00am! I'm getting toward being an Old Man™ and I'm struggling to stay awake past 11:00pm...

  • If current legislation in congress goes through, the US will find itself permanently locked in Daylight savings. It is an idea that originally about saving candle wax at night and has outlived its usefulness. I would like to see DST done away with completely.

Before I retired, I was working 3rd shift and European siege times would have made more sense for me that leaving for work just as siege was starting. Mayhaps GF could ask for feedback on the idea. Not everyone is you. WE have a siege at 6pm Eastern that sees some active siege and that might work just fine for you. Also, if you count Canada's Atlantic Time Z and Alaska Standard Time, we have 6 zones here without even trying to figure out what time it is in Hawaii. Not quite Russia with its 12, but still kind of crazy.

  • The main problem will be: different server locations (physical and virtual seperation between NA and EU). since server transfer from NA to EU is also impossible, i doubt they have a way to transfer you char temporarly to a EU sw server

Aye, it makes no sense in the modern, interconnected world. CGPGrey has an excellent video on DST.

Also, I'd love to have intercontinental-siege - that probably doesn't come across in my previous post. I just don't see it happening, though...

Is it physically impossible, or just not something GF has set up for us to do? A server is a server. You can transmit zeros and ones from any internet-connected server to any other, and that's all your characters are-an organized collection of ones and zeros.

  • gf has most likely a separated user/account management system per region (NA/EU). that means there is no flag you can change to get "char a from kadmos is now on ayvenas" or "char b from ayvenas is now on the eu pvp server". you could ofc establish a connection between those region systems but you have a few additional problems compared to the servertransfer within a region:

    - at first you need a connection in general (not too hard) that is also secure enough so that no data can be manipulated (also not too hard)

    - you need a way to duplicate a whole account into another region (completely new; doable but needs rw most likely + i assume that the data that needs to be transfered is ~50-100mb so you also need a way to make this as fast as possible so you won't have a 2 min loading screen into sw every time)

    - you need a way to make sure that the NA acc isn't accessible while it's copy is online on the EU sw server (and to make it accessible as soon as you disconnect/crit from the sw server)

    - you need a automated way to delete the account from the eu region as soon as you disconnect from there

ofc it's not impossible but it's likely comparable to the development effort required for a new zone and the testing of all edge cases (bugs in a single zone aren't as critical, but if an entire account were accidentally deleted or someone gained access to the wrong account, the consequences would be disastrous).

(this all is just an educated assumtion based on official statements regarding the topic of server transfer NA<->EU and how the pvp server works)

  • way too many moving parts to be realistic. You also have to consider that many parts are not transferred on a more simple EU > EU server transfer (e.g wardrobe, houses) and that a 'temporary' server transfer would be rife to exploitation.

A server merge/transfer would be a better plan, although you then have the issues of sw times as mentioned above. Most US sw players I have known of are joining EU sieges by methods that are not allowed by the TOS, but are regularly performed anyway (sharing accounts / chars).

Or maybe they simply have established EU accounts. I have 4 toons on an EU server that I would play once in a while back when server maintenance was being done at separate times and I was jonesing to play.
