  • Runes of Magic has made it 17 years, longer than most RPG/MMOs. The player base has been declining for some time, especially since the “Peak” system was initiated by Runewaker. Still, other, older games, like World of Warcraft continue to draw millions daily.

While I acknowledge that the upcoming expansion and end to Peak is great news for the loyal player base, what else can GF do to improve the player count? It’s going to tale more than just a new zone and a return to the old leveling system.

    1. Something that I have never seen in my fifteen years of playing RoM is a promotional advertising campaign. Without it, not only will most former players not know about the changes, the vast majority of MMO players won't just skip over the game when looking for something new, they won't even know RoM exists. It would be a shame to make the effort to build new quests and instances without letting the world know Taborea exists.

    2. Recompile the game for 64-bit. It would smooth out the graphics and allow a lot of players to use higher video resolutions. Anyone not using at least a 64-bit system by now seriosly needs to invest in new gear.

    3. Continue working on how to stop or massively reduce the irritating crashes we all put up with. The cause of this problem has a number of rumored causes, primarily a "memory leak", Regardless of what the cause is, figure it out.

    4. Add a COD option to the item shop "gift" function. This would encourage more people to "sell" diamonds without having to trust the people they don't know. Then GF sells more diamonds, profiting the company and the game.

As players, we can help by not posting negative crap on the forum. Many people read the forum posts of any game they are considering before deciding whether to give the game a try. Face it, people. Every free-to-play game has a certain amount of "pay-to-win" built in. Without it, the publishers can't pay for servers, staff, office space, etc.

Okay- That's all I can think of. Anyone else who has some ideas, please jump in here.

Sorry for my poor English. But regarding point 2: Gameforge can't modify the game or release a 64-bit version because Runewaker is responsible for it. I even spoke with Rakymos about it back then. Even he said that it would require completely rewriting the game, which Runewaker won't do.

  • The biggest problem the game has is that it doesn't hold player attention for long enough. Pasper was a great re-make, I really liked it, but most active players running it were done with their gear inside 3 months. It's now been over a year since it was released, so it's understandable that people would get bored of running the same ini(s) every day.

Sounds like the next update will have some kind of solution ('seasons' system), so let's see how this works. Ultimately players need incentives to actually play, because as I've said 100s of times by now, it makes no sense that spamming alt dailies and minigames is more rewarding than actually playing game content! (plus it's sad there are loads of well-designed and thought-out lower lvl inis just sitting there completely untouched, since nobody has any reason to go there).

  • agree with everything you all are posting, specially with that:

I really have faith in new content, more since imo NoM, MA and above all PS have rlly nice mechanics, but its a big long waiting.

I dont enjoy farming with alts while the game has a lot of abandoned content with many potential, hope the re-consider of peak lvls help a bit of that situation.

And almost all, hope oneiros dont take too much in arrive, this game could have more for offer than do the same instances over a year with the same classes and the same skills

  • Furthermore, Runes of Magic becomes somewhat uninteresting for new players because the economy is completely broken. If you're in endgame content and trying to get the good stats, you have no chance as a newcomer and are forced to spend real money just to get a decent amount of gold. That's really bad. So my suggestion would be that the Goblin Mine in Aslan Valley drops one Proof of Myth. However, it should be bound so you can't sell it. This way, you can run it with alts, but you still have to run it 50 times to get the highest red stat to move. Since the Goblin Mine can only be run once a day.

  • As promotion for the new content it could also be a good idea to do something like Twitch-Drops and get in touch with some content-creators ahead of release.

(just an idea that came to my mind that I wanted to share) :)

that was indeed done shortly before Kerub and it's international pendant were started. the creators had a pool of friend codes to give to their viewers. i don't know how successful this has been.

  • Nevertheless, the economy is completely screwed. Even if you have multiple accounts/alts... it's no longer fun to have to pay 500 million for each of two red stats for damage dealers... and when you need those two red stats for 14 or 15 items as a good damage dealer, you're forced to spend real money.

I have trouble understanding how what you are saying makes sense. Newcomers aren't in endgame content. I started statting when I was level 20. I was using the green stats from the level 50 gear that came on siege rewards gear. At level 20 you can still use the low level yellow stats available on the gear at that level. Guildmates should be running the lower instances for their peeps.

  • There absolutely needs to be a way for new users to experience end game content without being expected to invest huge amounts of money and time. There was talk of Peak Gear and it shows in the CharPlan plugin for example. Some sort of gear that a casual player can get and run some of the near-end game instances like NOM for example. That would be hugly hel[ful and people would gear alts too.

Since there are many EP and TP events, new people can level up their characters faster, so the lower instances are not interesting.

  • Lower level instances drop gear that is considerable inferior to that given by the new level-up bags.

However, they do drop some great skins. It's just disappointing that gearing up characters and using these skins comes at a quite high cost.

When you start converting the cost of items in diamonds compared to how much those diamonds cost in real money, it's eye-wateringly expensive to create just one piece of gear, never mind every equipment slot.

And then, about 10 levels later, you're looking to do it all over again!

  • All the prices in the IS have gone up in price, primarily because of the significantly reduced player base. It still costs the same(inflation adjusted) to operate the game.

It's not about the item shop prices... I mean the gold prices... when you have to pay 500 million gold for one red "Control or Detonation of the Righteous" stat, and then the red stat from the instance "Detonation / Control of Corruption" costs even 600-800 million gold, the economy is truly screwed. That's why Runes of Magic is uninteresting for new players, because you have to buy diamonds to participate in the endgame content later on. Keep in mind that new players also have to acquire the items, and you don't get the highest stats immediately...

  • those stats are rn way cheaper than back then shortly before MA was released with nom stats (good old 2 caps for a red stat and you barely found one who sold them xD) so i wouldn't say that the economy is completely broken since the prices are better than at some other times

the expectations on dps are quite high rn but you don't really need those stats to play the end content. same goes for high tier weapons and +30.

some classes like supporter and healer don't need stats at all and other stats f.e. for tanks are really cheap. there are also classes that'll do a ton of dmg even with pantheon gear.
balancing could fix that also for the other classes so that they will also be viable with worse gear tho

rn the peak system is a huge downer for newbies but when that is gone i would say it's pretty okish even compared to other mmorpgs (like new world, BD and way better than T&L xD)

Edited once, last by Ainz ().

  • Yup, actually the last patch was OP because there are 4x 425 yellows, really easy to get and inexpensive. You certainly don't need reds to be DPS in any of NoM/MA/Pasper, in fact all 3 are tactical inis with quite low dps requirement, for pasper that was even true on release day.

  • Я внесу свои 5 копеек. Почаще и побольше чтобы появлялись "короли" низкого уровня. Я с 2009 года играю еще с руофа и не разу не видел ОЛЕНЯ или ГРИБА итд.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll put in my two cents. We need more and more low-level "kings." I've been playing since 2009, back in Ruof, and I've never seen a DEER, MUSHROOM, or anything like that.

    Места надо знать!!!
